If you are being prescribed Xanax 2, than you probably have an anxiety disorder or even a panic disorder. Along with counseling, Xanax can be an effective way to control those feelings of vague unease, irrational fear and excessive worrying, just to name a few anxiety symptoms. When you first start on Xanax, your doctor will likely prescribe the lowest pill dosage, 0.5 milligrams. During an observation period, the doctor will up the dosage accordingly based on how much your symptoms of anxiety have eased or increased. The highest pill dosage is a Xanax 2 milligram. Xanax 2 is primarily for those individuals who have panic disorders as they are a bit tougher to treat than regular anxiety. With a panic disorder, you might have chest pain, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, trembling, dizziness and a few more other symptoms. A drug has to work hard to combat those symptoms so that is the reason why Xanax 2 is often prescribed for the panic disorders. Of course, the doctor will consider a variety of other factors before giving the go ahead for Xanax 2. For instance, pregnancy, nursing, age, weight, other medications you are currently taking and your general overall health all come into play. Most Xanax 2 dosages can be taken with or without food as the absorption rate is not that affected either way. If you find that Xanax 2 upsets your empty stomach, eat a quick snack a few minutes before taking the dosage. The food should help keep the medication from absorbing too rapidly as it could on an empty stomach. Another thing of note about Xanax 2 includes the necessity of taking the medication exactly as prescribed to avoid addiction to the drug. Among the classes of drugs, Xanax is as addicting as codeine and vicodin. If you and your doctor feel that it is time to stop taking Xanax 2, chances are that there will be a weaning period to avoid any major withdrawals. As long as you stick with the prescribed dosage, you should be fine.
