What are the special responsibilities of owning a Shiloh?

Shiloh Shepherd breeders are unusually devoted to maintaining a good breed. Most breeders raise their puppies in their homes with their families until the puppies are ready to go to permanent homes. The breeders will usually ask you to fill out a questionnaire and provide references before they sell you a dog, to make sure the dog will have a good home. They will also require by contract that you must return the dog to them if you find yourself unable to care for the dog for any reason. They will also require you to fill out evaluations of the dog’s genetic characteristics at various points and, if the dog is to be bred, you will need to get two separate certifications of the hips at one year and two years before breeding is allowed.  

How much do they cost?

A show quality dog runs from $2,000 to $3,000. A pet quality dog runs from $800 to $1,200 dollars.  Show quality dogs are the best of the breed.  Pet quality dogs are still wonderful family dogs, they just don’t have all the perfect qualities that make them the best of the breed.
